Uin: 4629788 Nickname: Absolute Angel Realname: Jay County: Leicestershire Comments: I figured it was about time I put a little info in this section, so here goes. Why the change of nick you may ( or may not) ask? Well most days I get called an absolute angel by at least one of my care patients so I thought " hey, if the name sticks..."
Community Care has to be one of the most varied, but rewarding careers you can opt for. I recently qualified at NVQ2 which allows me to work in hospitals or Doctors surgeries, but I have to admit I much prefer the one on one relationship that is community care.
No day is the same. One day you may visit a patient and the call goes smoothly, the next day you may walk in and find them in a heap on the floor, having had a fall ,or as has happened to me in the past, though thankfully not too often, you may find a patient dead. I've experienced two deaths in the five years I have been working in the care industry. Each time I have dealt with it calmly and professionally, but in the time following the event , I have had to come to terms with dealing with such a traumatic event, and the fact I know I will never see that person again.
That said? I would be happy doing this line of work until the day I retire.
Some of my patients do not see anyone other than myself for a lot of the time, and the greeting you get each morning, and the fact they are so genuinely pleased to see you speaks volumes .
If anyone reads this who is considering working in the care industry, and in particular care in the community, go for it. You have nothing to lose, but a lot of special friendships to gain!
